On June 27th 2003 was the day that Yomanlan opened its doors to its first annual event. The LAN event was held at Champlain College in St-Lambert, Quebec Canada. We had space for more than 300 players. It wasn't easy because we only had 5 weeks to prepare due to negotiations and sponsorship problems. We had about 6 peoples that initially invested about $1000 each, however due to the fact that we are starting from scratch and the cost for equipments and publicity we've invested a lot more then we initially intended to. Building a patch panel for 300 was not an easy task either and thank to the computer science club at Champlain College we had a lot of help from volunteers. During those 5 crucial weeks, we had to contact stores and other businesses to see whether they would be interested in becoming our sponsor. With all the hard work we were able to get Compusmart, Ubisoft... Every single day was crucial because we knew that we need to get the word out and to promote our event as much as possible so that we can get as much people as we can. We were short on staff and had a tight schedule because we would only have time to work on the event after school/work. All our staff worked very hard and some of us stayed overnight on the 26th to finish everything up. Most of us got little to no sleep because we had to get ready in the following morning at 10am for our pre-event. It was an open-house event so that people can bring in their computers for us to fix or to help them install peripherals. We also had to thank the ITP group for helping us in that morning. Without them we would definitely be short handed. The following thanks goes to our good friend Glenn Morisson, Graham Shurman and Eric Desjardins. When night falls, the LAN party officially started. We had spaces for 300 players, but we setup for 200 due to time constraint. In the end the turn out was not as high as we had expected, however it was a great experience and we had learned a lot from managing a large network and the business sense of setting up an event. Keep an eye open because Yomanlan 2004 will be held soon and now that we've done it once we know how to plan even more carefully and would not be totally clueless due to our inexperience in organizing an event.
